from kirkwall to mirith
& other inspirations
Hello everyone,
It’s your friend Meg. I say friend because if you’ve taken the time to sign up for this thing, I already like you, and we may as well take that next step and become, well, friends.
I started this account because I wanted to be able to reach you, my readers and other writers and my friends, without all the flash and hubbub of social media. I want to be open and vulnerable. I want to share who I really am, what I think about, and what goes into my writing and my art beyond views and likes and shares.
Also, obviously, it’s a means of promoting my work. I just had to get that out there! It is! But nothing I do lasts unless I come at it from a genuine place, so I hope you feel that we’re just good pals, hanging out, when you read these emails from me.
To start off, I’d just like to talk about Baldur’s Gate 3. Are we all playing it? Are we in love with Astarion?? No but seriously… VIDEO GAMES. They inspire so much of what I do in the writing arena. In Destroyer, when I describe the city of Mirith, some details about it might remind you of Kirkwall from a certain Dragon Age 2. And while Sanctifier isn’t directly inspired by it, there are parallels between many scenes in the book and the Dragon Age Inquisition quest, Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.
If you’re a writer looking for a spark of inspiration, remember that anything can become a book. A video game, a song, a dramatic weather pattern, another book that you hated and need to improve upon (in your own, original way), a dream, a good meal.
There’s no limit to what can become a story.
I hope you enjoyed this rambling, and please do stick around for the cover reveal of The Frost Queen’s Blade, which will drop a day early right here!
Meg x
